`Ragamalika' in celebration mood as Preeja wins gold

Palakkad: God had showered grace on Remani who had gone to the Muringoor meditation camp to pray for her daughter Preeja Sreedharan's victory. Answering her prayer, Preeja won gold in the women's 10,000m at Guangzhou Asian Games on Sunday. When she bagged the gold, her family in her house at `Ragamalika' in Olavakkod; Palakakd, celebrated it with fire crackers and sweets among their friends and neighbours. Preeja is a head clerk at the Palakkad railway division office. She had been residing in the railway quarters for the last six years along with her mother Ramani, brother Pradeep, Pradeep's wife Suma and their daughter Akshaya.
Her brother said that she had called before the match. Preeja has an elder sister too, Preetha. Preeja who hails from Rajakkad, Idukki is the daughter of Kochumullkkanam Sreedharan and Ramani. Her father passed away when she was very young and her mother and brother went for daily wages work to run the family.

Her brother quit studies at the age of 15 to run the family. She was given education and training with their meager income. Preeja after the victory dedicated the same to her mother and brother and her trainers as a reward for their efforts. She shifted to Palakakd after getting a job in the Railways in 2002. After her achievement, Maharashtra governor K Sankaranarayanan and railway division manager S K Raina congratulated the family.
